Tourism Industry Council SA CEO, Shaun deBruyn, said: ‘The arts and tourism economies have been among those hardest hit by the pandemic and its related restrictions, and their recoveries will be closely linked to one another. To grow jobs and strengthen business, our three industry groups will work beyond our siloes for the greater good of our sectors and those working in them.’

The entities have jointly identified that to facilitate progress, their collaboration will aim to:

  • promote and execute a tactical industry approach towards the development of South Australia as an arts and cultural destination
  • work with the government to shape policy that is conducive to business development and growth in cultural tourism
  • encourage systematic investment in the State’s cultural attractions
  • address the need for capacity, capability, and infrastructure development.

The joint memorandum follows the recent announcement of the State’s first Arts and Cultural Tourism Strategy, which has been undertaken by the South Australian Tourism Commission and Department of Premier and Cabinet, Arts South Australia.
